The Fire Service is the enforcing authority for compliance with the 2005 Fire Safety Order. It is their responsibility to visit premises either through routine visits, or because a concern has been raised by another party or as a result of an incident, to ensure that there is an up to date Fire Risk Assessment in place and the Responsible Person is compliant with its findings. Many people are not aware  of these regulations, or of what their legal duty is. The Fire Service could phone you at any time to make an appointment to call to carry out an audit.

As such, it is your responsibility to be aware of the fire safety precautions that you need in place and to ensure that all fire safety equipment is kept up to date and functional. These precautions will differ from business to business however all the information you need to know can be found very easily.
